We support Healthy Living in Abala, to strengthen the ancestral knowledge related to the care of native bees and medicinal plants in the Yucatan, which is still alive in rural communities. However, this cultural and environmental heritage is declining more and more over time. This project is designed to strengthen young Yucatecan Maya in their interest related to the preservation of culture and language through scientific-environmental knowledge in their local communities. Maya youth will establish a learning and teaching center in their community of Abalá, to revitalize the knowledge of the elders about medicinal plants and melipona bees, the only species of bees domesticated by the Maya, and in this way motivate the future generations.
