2023 International Funders for Indigenous Peoples Global Conference

TCC attended the 2023 International Funders for Indigenous Peoples Global Conference in Mérida, México on the Yucatán peninsula. Indigenous leaders from around the world gathered to make connections and brainstorm. Conversations centered on decolonizing philanthropy and over coming barriers to shift power and resources to Indigenous communities prioritizing community-led solutions and stronger partnerships between funders and the organizations, causes and projects they support. The five-day conference centered around Shifting Power: Indigenous People’s Rights, Leadership and Self-determination and started with a pre-conference day for the third international gathering of Indigenous-led funds, including Indigenous youth dialogue and the Indigenous philanthropy community. The official conference followed with learning and sharing knowledge, dialogues for collaboration, experiential learning, networking and celebration. There were many beautiful connections made at the conference and deep learning experiences resulted from the gatherings that we will incorporate into the work we do for Indigenous communities.
